Curriculum Intent
Computing
Our children will be…Analytical
“Computing is not about computers any more. It is about living.”- Nicholas Negroponte.
At Sacred Heart, we have a clear and simple vision: the children should be safe, inspired and confident.
Computing offers children a wide range of opportunities to become creative and analytical thinkers by discovering ways to solve problems. Children will be able to confidently apply skills from other subjects and apply their computing skills to other areas. The use of Information, Communication and Technology will empower children to deepen their learning and understanding of not only computer programming and systems but also their knowledge and understanding of the world around them. Computing should enhance children’s knowledge and understanding of the curriculum as a whole.
The curriculum at Sacred Heart is developed alongside our partners at Hi-Impact consultancy. Their support has had a huge impact on the teaching and learning of computing within our school. A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Computing has deep links with mathematics, science, and design and technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems. At Sacred Heart, we teach the three key core computing components; Computer Science, Information Technology & Digital Literacy. These areas are revisited on a regular basis in order to build on the children’s prior learning.
Each child will be able to access the Internet and use the World Wide Web in a safe and respectful way. They will understand the necessary precautions to take, to know how to stay safe and to know where to seek help. No child should feel threatened or unsafe whilst online at school or at home.
Computing is an integral part of our everyday life and will play an immeasurable part in our children’s futures.
