Welcome to Foundation 2
In Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, we believe every child deserves a happy, confident start to their learning journey. The early years are a special time when children grow, explore, and develop rapidly, and the experiences they have during this stage help shape their future learning and wellbeing. Our aim is to provide a warm, safe, and nurturing environment where children feel valued, supported, and encouraged to be curious about the world around them.
By working closely with families and providing high-quality early learning opportunities, we help children build strong foundations for future success. Through play, exploration, and meaningful experiences, children develop independence, confidence, and a love of learning.
Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) approach guides everything we do, ensuring children are safe, healthy, and supported while they learn. We focus on preparing children for the transition into school by helping them develop important skills, knowledge, and positive relationships that will support them throughout their education and beyond.
The Foundation 2 Teacher is Mrs Smith and Mrs Balmer is our Teaching Assistant.

The Early Years Curriculum
In Early Years, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage which encompasses seven areas;
● Personal, Social and Emotional Development
● Physical Development
● Communication and Language
● Literacy
● Mathematics
● Understanding the World
● Expressive Art and Design
Throughout the day we observe our children, gaining snap shots of their independant learning. This supports out practitioners to gather a picture of each individual child’s learning and development each day. We teach regular “adult led” sessions and set out exciting learning opportunities through “continuous provision”. Learning can happen anywhere, anytime so we are always ready to capture it!
