Music
Our children will be…Connected
‘Music is the greatest communication in the world. Even if people don’t understand the language that you’re singing in, they still know good music when they hear it.’- Lou Rawls.
Music is an experience that all children are able to access. This could be through listening, responding or creating. Whatever background, culture or opportunities we have knowledge of, music does not change, we are still able to express an opinion of what we hear or feel, as well as respond in a way that is suitable to us each. Music enables all children to be involved in something as individuals, as well as a group. It connects us to each other in our close community, as well as with others across the globe and throughout time.
There are many levels within Music education that all pupils are able to experience in some way, whether with a basic understanding or a more advance and deeper knowledge of the subject. The musical skills that pupils are taught are developed upon throughout their education, starting from a young age and gradually built upon. The notes and rhythms which combine together to form a melody have to be learnt and known in order to be played, however, nothing needs to be taught in order to be felt and understood, it needs to be encouraged.
The Charanga Music School scheme provides structured lessons for staff to deliver high quality Music tuition, as well as additional resources so that tailored teaching can also be provided in line with the requirements of the National Curriculum. Alongside lessons, many musical opportunities are provided throughout the school week for children to deepen their knowledge, connect to one another, to others around the world and their inner emotions. These experiences include individual music tuition, listening and appraising time and joining together in musical worship.
As Stevie Wonder sang, ‘Music is a world within itself, it’s a language we all understand’. Music connects all of us through experiences, emotions, memories and creativity. We want our pupils to be connected to life through Music.
