Welcome to Year 1

Curriculum

This term, our young geographers will be answering the question "What is it like here?" We’ll be mapping out our school grounds, learning how to use simple aerial photos, and building our directional vocabulary to explore our local area.

In Science, we will become weather observers as we study "Seasonal Change." The children will be tracking patterns across the four seasons—monitoring changes in trees, daylight hours, and the weather as autumn sets in.

P.E.

Our P.E. days are:

Autumn Term 1 is Tuesday

On P.E. days, children should come to school dressed in an appropriate P.E. kit.

P.E. kit includes:

• White T-shirt

• Plain black shorts

• Black joggers or leggings

• Burgundy hoodie – with or without a zip (with school logo)

• Trainers

• Black pumps

Please note: Football kits are not permitted.

For the safety of your child and others, children must not wear jewellery, including earrings, during P.E. lessons.

Please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly named, including P.E. kit, footwear and outerwear. This will help to prevent items from becoming lost or misplaced.

P.E. Topics: Throughout the year, children will develop their skills in Basic Movements, Dance, Games and Athletics.

Homework

A reading book, homework and weekly spellings will be sent home each Friday and should be returned to school by the following Wednesday. Homework will include a variety of activities covering Maths, English and other curriculum areas.

Spelling tests will take place each Friday.

Each child will be provided with a plastic school bag, which should be returned to school every Wednesday.
