It seems to me that the natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life worth living.” Sir David Attenborough

Geography

Geography translated from Greek means to write or study the Earth. Earth is our home, it is the only planet in our galaxy capable of supporting life as we know it. It provides us with all the resources we need to exist and our actions will decide its future survival. Despite its vastness, our planet is very much interconnected. Geography allows us to identify and explain those connections.

So what do we want our students at Sacred Heart to understand in Geography and therefore experience in our world? We want to nurture key knowledge and skills: inquisitiveness; enthusiasm for the environment and for people, places and cultures; and above all we want them to respect the Earth.

Geography allows our young minds to explore the rich patterns that dictate the world and our human connection to it. By stimulating a rich education of Geography we are fostering students of the future - the minds that will save our future.

At Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, we believe that Geography can enrich a ‘whole lifetime of learning’ (Geographical Association).  Thinking geographically offers students a unique opportunity to gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the world around them and their place in it.

At Sacred Heart we encourage the children’s love and appreciation of nature, we seek to inspire the children to develop curiosity, love and fascination with our world for the rest of their life. Our curriculum weaves together our catholic ethos with social values and is embedded in our vision for our children.
